Whats new in drinking laws?

New Drinking Laws for 2020

With 2020 just beginning you may be asking yourself what new drinking laws are approaching? Or not? We know, not a common thing most people are concerned about. But if you are a seller/server or in the restaurant/bar industry you may want to take notice. You never know when one of these new laws may affect the establishment you work in. Below you will see a quick  round up the most notable law changes for the industry.

One of the biggest changes you will see, especially if you live in Nevada or plan on taking a trip soon, is the legalization of recreational marijuana in the state. Also effective January 1, 2020, state law prohibits employers from refusing to hire a job applicant because he or she submitted to a screening test and the results indicate the presence of marijuana.

Illinois has already approved the use of recreational marijuana but now as of January 1st must be at least 21 years old to possess, consume, use, purchase, obtain, or transport marijuana in an amount that does not exceed the law’s possession limit.

Another new law that comes with a heavy impact is higher minimum wages. The minimum wage is being raised in a total of 22 states! This list includes Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Missouri, New Mexico and Washington and nearly 7 million workers  total.

Last but not least on our new law round up is a California alcohol and beverage course. Currently, it is not required for people in the sun shine state to become certified seller/servers. But coming summer 2020 all restaurant employees will be required to complete a course. Look out for that California!

That about wraps our new law round about! Hopefully you learned something new this Monday morning. We know we did!
