Firstly, it can reduce drug-related incidents leaving people open to vulnerabilities or worse, overdoses. Drug test kits can detect substances like Rohypnol and GHB. Governor Abbot has spoken about the dangerous of fentanyl use at length. Calling it a crisis, he introduced House Bill 6. This Bill, which was signed and taken effect on September 1st 2023, states prosecutor can charge a person for murder for distributing fentanyl laced drug which results in someone’s death. It carries a minimum of 15 years. Far too many lives have been taken from drugs like Fentanyl. While drug test kits can’t solve this crisis, it may off some aid. The help comes in the form of letting users identify these substances. This could potentially prevent many tragic deaths.
